Westport singer-songwriter releases deeply personal track inspired by health battles and life experience

A talented Westport musician is making a long-awaited return to the music scene with the release of a deeply personal new single following a six-year hiatus.

Gráinne Fahy, who performs under the artist name Gronya, has released her latest track, Easy, marking a new chapter in her musical journey after several years away from recording and performing.

Originally from Westport, Gráinne first began releasing music in 2017 and quickly gained national attention.

Her debut single Oranges earned a place on the RTÉ Radio One Playlist and received airplay on Spin FM, while her 2018 release 1 in 10, written to raise awareness of Endometriosis, was played at awareness events across Ireland and internationally.

Her 2019 single Dead Meat also attracted critical acclaim, earning a feature on music platform Nialler9.

Throughout her career, Gráinne has shared stages with a number of well-known Irish artists, including Paddy Casey, Emma Langford and Stephanie Rainey.

Now aged 26, the Mayo singer-songwriter says her return comes after years of personal challenges and growth, much of which has influenced her latest release.

Written in 2023, Easy explores themes of uncertainty, resilience and the quiet moments before major life changes. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Imogen Heap and Low Roar, the song features intricate vocal harmonies and layered production.

For Gráinne, however, the track carries a much deeper meaning.

The songwriter revealed that she penned Easy during a period when her health was deteriorating. Having previously spoken openly through her music about living with severe Crohn’s Disease and Endometriosis, she said the song became a private reflection of the difficulties she was experiencing at the time.

Following its creation, her health worsened significantly, forcing her to step away from music as she became too ill to work, write or sing.

During those years, the song remained unreleased.

Now, with her health improving and life taking a more positive direction, Gráinne felt the time was right to finally share the track with the world.

The decision was reinforced after an impromptu performance of Easy at an open mic night in McCarthy’s Bar. Following the performance, a fellow attendee remarked on the silence in the room during the song, suggesting that listeners had connected deeply with its message.

The experience convinced her that the emotions behind the song resonated with far more people than she had realised.

With Easy, Gronya’s return signals a fresh chapter for one of Mayo’s most promising singer-songwriters, combining years of lived experience with the honesty and vulnerability that first brought her music to audiences across Ireland.
