The achievement recognises the dedication and hard work of pupils and staff in helping to protect and enhance bird habitats in the waterways located beside the school that provide vital nesting and feeding grounds for a variety of bird species.

The Breeding Waders Ambassadors Flag programme aims to raise awareness of the importance of conserving breeding wader species and the habitats they depend on. Through their environmental initiatives, students at Kinaffe NS have played an active role in learning about local wildlife, biodiversity and the importance of protecting sensitive ecosystems.

The award marks a milestone not only for the school but also for environmental education in Mayo, highlighting the positive impact that local communities can have in safeguarding natural habitats for future generations.

The achievement has been warmly welcomed locally, with congratulations extended to all involved for their dedication to preserving Mayo’s rich natural heritage.

As the first recipient of the Breeding Waders Ambassadors Flag in Mayo, Kinaffe NS is setting an example for other schools across the county in supporting biodiversity and protecting the habitats that are essential for Ireland’s breeding wader populations.
