Mayo Sports Partnership marks national play day with inclusive summer activities

Families are encouraged to get active as National Play Day celebrations continue across the county
Mayo Sports Partnership is celebrating National Play Day 2026 by supporting a range of inclusive activities for children and young people across the county throughout the summer.
National Play Day, which runs from July 4 to July 12, is a nationwide initiative supported by the Department of Children, Disability and Equality to promote the importance of play and recreation for children of all ages and abilities.
This year’s theme, “Play for All,” focuses on ensuring every child has access to inclusive opportunities to play, be active and have fun, regardless of their age, ability or background.
As part of the celebrations, Mayo Sports Partnership is supporting a number of activities, including Inclusive Cúl Camps in Castlebar and Erris and Boccia sessions in Belmullet, helping to ensure children of all abilities can participate.
Programme Manager Ray McNamara said National Play Day is an important reminder of the value of play in children’s lives.
“National Play Day highlights the importance of giving every child the opportunity to play, be active and have fun. We are delighted to support a range of inclusive activities across Mayo this summer and encourage families to get involved.”
Mayo Sports Partnership said play is essential for children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, helping them build confidence, develop friendships, learn new skills and enjoy an active lifestyle.
The partnership is encouraging families across Mayo to take part in local events and make the most of the free, family-friendly activities taking place during the summer.
