Roads in Mayo town centre to close across weekend for local horse fair

The local Horse Fair and Heritage Day command crowds in the town every year
Mayo County Council have signalled their intention to close a pair of roads in Westport to facilitate the town’s annual Horse Fair and Heritage Day.
The event brings together equine enthusiasts from across the county and further afield for a weekend of celebration each September.
This year, the event is set to return to the town under the shadow of Croagh Patrick on the weekend of Friday, September 18.
In order to ensure the smooth running of the fair, the Council have announced a series of route closures.
From 6 pm on Friday, September 18, to 6 pm on Saturday, September 19, the South Mall and Lower Fairgreen will be closed. Commuters are advised to use Bridge Street and Mill Street as alternate routes.
From 7 am to 6 pm on Saturday, September 19, the North Mall will also be subject to a road closure. Diversions will be in place on the R-309 along Distillery Road and Castlebar Street.
