Dundalk society celebrates national success for its acclaimed productions

SONG Dundalk enjoyed a hugely successful evening at the annual AIMS (Association of Irish Musical Societies) Awards, held at the Gleneagle Hotel and INEC in Killarney last Saturday night.

Members of the society travelled to Kerry after receiving six nominations, five for their acclaimed production of We Will Rock You, staged in April, and one for their production of Annie, presented last November.

Patrick Dunne was named Runner-Up in the Best Musical Director category for We Will Rock You, while EJ Dunne, Terese Dunne, Tara Gill and Sinead Lightley were also named Runners-Up in the Best Choreographers category for the production.

The night proved to be a memorable one for the Dundalk society, which emerged as the most successful group at the awards ceremony, taking home four awards and two runners-up placings.

The society's production of We Will Rock You won the awards for Best Technical, Best Choral Singing and Best Moment of Theatre. A special highlight of the evening was the success of 12-year-old Tess Kierans, who won the prestigious Best Youth Performance award for her role as Annie, making her one of the youngest AIMS Award winners in the country.

More than 1,200 representatives from musical societies across Ireland attended the prestigious event, which celebrates excellence in amateur musical theatre throughout the country.

SONG Dundalk said: “The achievements of SONG Dundalk mark a significant milestone for the society and reflect the dedication and talent of its cast, crew and volunteers, in their 20th year.”
