Jimmy Myers ‘fearful someone will lose their life’ at junction in Hackballscross

Sinn Féin Local Election hopeful Jimmy Myers, says he is "fearful someone will lose their life" at a notorious junction in Hackballscross.

The Sinn Féin activist said that "the turnpike on the main Castleblaney Road, Hackballscross has seen numerous accidents over the past few months alone and God knows how many ‘near misses’ there have been.

"The problem is that as a vehicle is travelling along the main road, they are on the junction before they realise it is there. Local people are aware of it but those from outside the area are not."

He continued: “I, along with our TD Ruairí Ó Murchú, visited the area with a Louth County Council engineer to assess what could be done to make the junction safer. It was suggested that flashing lights on the approach to the junction would probably be the best solution and given the design of the junction, probably the most appropriate solution.

"I was then told that due to economic constraints, there was no money in the budget to carry out the much needed safety works.

“To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Once again we are falling victim to Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael policies and their consistent underfunding of local authorities. I am not giving up on this, I will continue to push to get this junction made safer before there is a serious accident at it.”
