Drogheda residents from Termon Abbey are angry over water issues that have gone back to November.

Louth residents from Termon Abbey in Drogheda have expressed concerns over water which originated in November.

Termon Abbey resident Lorraine Dunne spoke to Newstalk on Thursday, August 6, about the issues the residents have faced in the past several months.

“Since November 22 we’ve had either no water or significantly reduced water pressure.

“Some residents are having to go to relatives who live in different areas of Drogheda to get washed and some are using watering cans in the shower.

“We are buying 5 litres of water for cleaning and filling toilets.

“A lot of us have had to replace washing machines and dishwashers.”

Dunne believes the water issues happened for two main reasons.

An extension was built onto Termon Abbey which has reduced their water supply.

“A housing estate called The Chesters has come online in November and since then we have had nothing but issues.”

Dunne claimed the residents have repeatedly contacted Uisce Eireann but say they just keep being given new reference numbers.

“They tell you they’re escalating your problem to a more senior person and then maybe a day later you get a text saying your problem has been sorted, but they’re not actually resolving anything for us.”

Uisce Eireann made a statement regarding the issue.

It said: “Uisce Eireann is aware of the issues raised by the residents of Termon Abbey.

“The water pressure challenges experienced are primarily linked to the configuration of the existing water network serving north Drogheda.

“ Uisce Eireann is introducing longer term network improvement projects to help address existing constraints and strengthen the resilience of water supplies in north Drogheda.

“Customers experiencing ongoing supply difficulties are encouraged to contact Uisce Eireann directly so that individual circumstances can be addressed and appropriate supports provided where required.”
