Louth teenage gymnast Estella’s Olympic dream takes off
Estella is preparing for the challenges of senior international gymnastics
Louth teenage gymnast Estella Volkoff is enjoying an outstanding year, with a series of impressive performances at national and international level marking her as one of Ireland’s rising gymnastics talents.
In May 2026, Estella competed at the FIG National Championships, where she won gold on Balance Beam, adding another national title to an already remarkable season.
In June, Estella travelled to Maribor, Slovenia, where she was part of the Irish Junior Women's Team that won team gold,
Estella also achieved individual success in Maribor, finishing 3rd in the all-around competition. In the apparatus finals, she continued her excellent form, winning gold on Balance Beam with a score of 12.900 and taking silver on Floor.
Her success continued at the 2026 European Junior Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, where Estella made Irish gymnastics history by becoming the first Irish gymnast to compete in a European-level Beam Final.
In the Beam Final, Estella delivered an impressive performance, scoring 12.433 to finish in an outstanding 4th place. She narrowly missed the podium by just 0.4 points, but her result was a historic achievement for Irish gymnastics.
The results cap a hugely successful junior career for Estella. Next year, she will move up to the senior level, bringing with her valuable experience from competing successfully at national and international level.
Her ambitions are already looking towards the future. Estella is preparing for the challenges of senior international gymnastics and will be working towards the qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the dream of earning an Olympic spot, particularly on Balance Beam.
From national champion to European finalist and international medallist, Estella Volkoff has enjoyed a remarkable year. As she takes the next step into senior gymnastics, her journey towards the 2028 Olympic dream is only beginning.
