Louth's O'Dowd says PayPal decision a major blow for north east workers

Says primary concern is for impacted staff and their families
Louth TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has said that his primary concern is for impacted staff and their families following PayPal’s decision to reduce their Irish workforce by over 200 with a collective consultation process expected to begin shortly.
Deputy O’Dowd said that “following a phone call with PayPal during the week I was reassured that they remain committed to their strategically important operations in Ireland, however I did express my concerns and disappointment to them on their latest decision."
The Fine Gael TD continued: “This announcement will see their current workforce reduce by 205 to just over 1600 nationally, which will likely affect many workers in County Louth and the wider North East who were previously headquartered in PayPal’s Dundalk office which closed last year.
“This is very difficult news for the PayPal staff involved and indeed for their wider families. I have requested that all supports be made available to any affected staff through the Department of Enterprise and Department of Social Protection.
“The company further advise that it will provide outplacement, coaching and other supports to impacted employees, and will provide an enhanced redundancy package to those impacted.”
