Over €250k for six projects in north Louth

Community groups in the Cooley Peninsula have been allocated over €250k in CLÁR funding as part of the latest round of supports.
CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) is a targeted investment programme run by Department of Rural and Community Development for rural areas that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in designated rural areas.
Omeath Tidy Towns have received €44,951 for the installation of solar compactor bins and information panel on recycling, Scoil Naomh Brid received €32,859 for the upgrading of a soft play area while Scoil Naomh Lorcan received €50,000 for the installation of Astro-turf MUGA facility.
Mullaghbuoy Community Centre received €45,000 for car park upgrades, while in Lordship, Scoil Naisiunta Muire received €48,192 for the construction of a garden room.
In Ravensdale, Dulargy National School received €34,658 for a multi purpose playing surface.
Speaking on the announcement from Minister Heather Humphreys that local schools, community centres and tidy towns groups would be receiving funding totalling over a quarter of a million, Senator John McGahon said, “Omeath has done particularly well with three groups receiving funding.”
“Huge credit needs to go to everyone involved with these groups for putting in so much time and effort into the application process, securing funding of €255,600 for the Cooley Peninsula is a testament to their hard work.”
Councillor John Reilly said, “This funding comes under Measure 1 of the CLAR Programme, which supports the development of community and sports facilities, youth clubs, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks and more.
“Just before Christmas, €159,288 was split between Cooley Kickhams GFC, Cuchulainn Gaels and Glenmore Athletics under the same measure.
“In total, 9 groups in the Cooley Peninsula have received over €420,000 in funding in the last six weeks. This is just an incredible amount of money that will improve facilities for the entire community.”
“Minister Heather Humphreys has been a regular visitor to the Cooley Peninsula over the last year and has always been impressed with the dedication from community groups, sports clubs and schools to make our local area a great place to live," said Councillor Reilly.
