Louth County Council refuses planning permission

Louth County Council has refused planning permission for a glamping site in Ardee.

Matthew and Catherine Myles had applied in July for planning permission for the construction of a glamping site containing four separate yurts, at Glack, Ardee.

The planning application had also provided for a packaged wastewater treatment system with polishing filter, car-parking, the provision of a toilet block and washing facilities in part of an existing shed, and to modify an existing entrance, along with any ancillary site works.

Louth County Council made the decision to refuse planning permission on 8 September. In its decision, it said that the site" is located in a remote rural area and is not served by foul drainage or other services and amenities".

It also said that "given the information on file and nature of the development, it is not considered that the proposal would provide a justifiable tourist product at this location and as such is not considered that the proposed development comes under the scope of the policies of the Louth County Development Plan 2021-2027 (as varied).

"The proposed development would contribute to the encroachment of random rural development in the area, would militate against the preservation of the rural environment, would set an undesirable precedent for other similar inappropriate

development in the vicinity and thus would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area."
