Irish Planning Institute announces shortlist for 2025 Planning Awards

The Irish Planning Institute, the all-island professional membership body for spatial planners, has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Irish Planning Awards, which includes nominations for two projects in Louth.

The biennial Irish Planning Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in the planning profession, including projects and plans at a local, county, regional and national level. The projects from Louth nominated at the 2025 Planning Awards include the plan developed by Louth County Council to improve public participation in the Dundalk Local Area Plan, and the design of the proposed Offshore Wind Maintenance and Operations Facilities planned for Greenore Port.

The 2025 Irish Planning Awards attracted a record 80 entries from all around the country. A panel of expert judges have selected a shortlist for the Awards, which features 55 nominees across 12 categories including: Plan Making; Commercial Projects; Urban Regeneration; Heritage and Culture; Climate Action; Biodiversity; Housing or Community; Infrastructure; Research and Innovation; Diversity and Inclusion; Planning Consultancy and In-House Planning Teams; and Planning Authorities.

An overall President’s Award will be awarded to the standout winner across all 12 categories. The IPI received submissions from across the island of Ireland including Antrim, Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Monaghan, Meath, Tipperary, Westmeath, and Wicklow, along with work also undertaken by the three regional assemblies and an international project in Lesotho.

Gavin Lawlor, President of the Irish Planning Institute, said: “The Irish Planning Institute is delighted to be hosting the biennial awards that celebrate creativity and quality throughout the Irish planning sector. The awards provide an excellent opportunity to acknowledge and reward the innovative work by our members who strive every year to deliver high quality projects and sustainable developments.”

“With a record 80 entries, submissions for the 2025 Planning Awards were particularly strong, with excellent examples of sustainable, innovative and thoughtful planning right across the various categories. I want to congratulate each of the nominees for being shortlisted and I look forward to joining you all at our awards ceremony in Clontarf Castle Hotel in September.”

The 2025 awards will be presented at a black-tie gala dinner and ceremony in Clontarf Castle Hotel on Thursday 25, September 2025.
