FUTUREPROOF Clare members joined the host of civil society organizations at COP27 in Egypt, in an attempt to make their voices heard, and monitor the agreement making process.

Theresa O’Donohoe, FutureProof Clare said that the world can no longer allow the windfall profits by the very companies who have caused the climate crisis to go unchecked.

"G7 + rich countries have a moral and legal responsibility to tax, dismantle and wind-down fossil fuel companies based in their territories, and to redirect those finances to the people," she said.

Money needs to be going to help those impacted by climate change, not fossil fuel shareholders or to new fossil fuel explorations, Ms O' Donoghue added.

Martin Vernon, who is also part of FutureProof Clare said that the people in the countries that have done the least to cause the climate crisis are already being the most impacted.

"It is the responsibility of the few nations - who have grown rich by polluting the atmosphere - to pay for the damage they have caused. Loss and damage is not a handout, but a debt that is owed to everyone on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

"I have had many conversations with people impacted by flooding in the few days that I have been here. The consequences of our actions are hurting the most vulnerable in society," Mr Vernon concluded.
