A SWIMMING ban on a popular Clare beach has been lifted by Clare County Council following advice from the HSE.

The council implemented a bathing and swimming ban at Lahinch beach on Wednesday following the detection of elevated levels of bacteria in the water.

According to a spokesperson for the council, the restriction had been introduced after the results of routine bathing water samples showed elevated levels of bacteria. Run-off from the catchment after recent heavy rainfall was identified as a cause.

On the advice of the HSE, the bathing prohibition at Lahinch beach has now been lifted.
