AN EMERGENCY closure of a busy Limerick street has happened due to safety concerns.

Cecil St, in Limerick city centre, has been temporarily closed since Thursday, May 11.

It is understood that raw sewage was seen flowing through the street.

Limerick City and County Council have since issued a public notice to advise motorists of this closure.

The statement mentions that the street will be closed “until further notice” to facilitate “a road safety issue regarding a sewer culvert”.

Diversions will be put in place and road users are advised of delays at this time.
