Excitement is reaching fever pitch among school children across Kildimo and Pallaskenry as the community counts down to one of the biggest days in the club’s history

FOR the first time ever, Kildimo – Pallaskenry are contesting the Limerick Senior Football Championship final.

It’s all thanks to their 2-16 to 0-20 extra-time victory over Mungret in Clarina on Saturday, October 17.

The upcoming final is a major talking point for many young supporters, who are looking forward to seeing their local team compete for county honours.

Ahead of the big game, members of the team visited the Kildimo and Pallaskenry primary schools, on Friday, October 23, bringing plenty of good cheer with them.

Garry Sheehan, Shaun Barry, Ciarán Barry, Peter Nash, Evan Considine, Seanie Hartigan and Kyle Hayes met the pupils and gifted each child a pass to the final.

While most primary school pupils are talking about their Halloween costumes, for the children of this parish it’s all about their football heroes who they will soon be cheering on from the sidelines.

With the big day fast approaching, the young supporters are eager to show their support for the players as they aim to make history.

Sadie Hannon, 11, said: “It was so exciting when the players visited our school to give all the kids passes for the game.

"Everyone was chanting for them, go Kildimo-Pallaskenry!!”

The excitement continued on Sunday, October 25, when a coffee morning gave children another opportunity to meet the players, chat with them and share in the build-up to the final.

Siblings Dara, 12, and Emily O’ Sullivan, 7, are confident the team can go all the way: “It’s the first time Kildimo-Pallaskenry have made it this far, we beat Mungret and we can win it!

"We are also very excited to see our big brother Cian play.”

Nine-year-old Robbie Ryan is also looking forward to the occasion, particularly the chance to take to the field himself: “I'm excited to play at half time with the Under 10’s. I'm supporting my cousin Garry and wish them the best of luck!”

Seven-year-old Billy Chawke is hoping for a memorable performance from the local side: “I want to see all the boys that I know play great football and hopefully win. "Come on KP!”

With excitement spreading throughout the community and young supporters ready to cheer from the sidelines, Kildimo-Pallaskenry are preparing for a momentous occasion.

The team will face Fr Casey’s in the Limerick Senior Football Championship Final on Sunday, November 1, with the club hoping to make history.
