The case involving a woman assaulting a garda at Bruff garda station was heard at Kilmallock District Court

A WOMAN who assaulted a member of An Garda Síochána has been convicted, fined and given a fully suspended sentence.

Rebecca Connery of Glenanaar, Ardpatrick, appeared before Kilmallock District Court.

On the night of October 31, 2025 and into November 1, 2025, she was brought to Bruff garda station on foot of a road traffic offence to give a sample of blood or urine.

The court heard that she refused to give the sample and attempted to leave the custody area of the station and that it took “a number of gardaí to subdue her.”

Ms Connery grabbed the wrist of a female garda, pushed her against a door and struggled with her. The garda suffered injuries and had pain in her lower back, hip and wrist and was unable to bend one knee due to pain.

The court heard that the woman has four previous convictions including road traffic offences.

Judge Patricia Harney disqualified the woman from driving for four years and imposed a fine of €500 giving her three months to pay.

In relation to the assault, she was sentenced to three months in prison suspended for 18 months.
