THE RETURN of the popular Christmas market and ice rink at Arthur's Quay Park has been confirmed.

The ice rink is to be open to the public on November 24, with the Christmas market opening the following week.

Managing director of Futureama Productions LTD, Fran O’Donnell, has confirmed that the Christmas market will be back on Arthur’s Quay at the end of November.

Mr O’Donnell was requested to tender this year’s festivities. For him, it's a family affair as he already takes care of Limerick On Ice, Ireland’s oldest rink, with the help of his sister, and his son Jack. The ice rink will be open to the public on November 24.

“We have some unusual stalls coming there this year’s, it’ll be different from last year. We have a different angle on it,” Mr O’Donnell told the Limerick Leader.

“We’re just starting to build the ice rink next Monday. The ice rink has to be built, then the stalls will go around it.”

Speaking of what people can expect from the market, he said: “There’ll be lovely ceramic ornaments that are very unique, which are manufactured in Limerick. As much as possible, we’d like to build up this market with an emphasis on Limerick and Limerick products. We hope to do this over a three-year period, larger every year and make it unique to Limerick and make it an added attraction to the ice rink, which already attracts 40,000 people into the region, which is brilliant for the city, that’s very good for the local economy.”

Mr O’Donnell concluded: “The ice rink will be open for November 24. Probably a week after that, the Christmas market will open as well. The ice rink doesn’t close until January 7, and I’m sure some of the stalls will be willing to stay on at that time as well.”
