Elderly woman has bag stolen from home as she unpacked shopping from car
A WOMAN in her 70s was the victim of a burglary in Limerick after an opportunistic thief stole a handbag from her home as she brought her shopping in from her car.
The incident took place in Caherdavin when the homeowner was bringing her groceries from her car into her home.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station said that the incident happened on the evening of Thursday, February 23.
The woman opened the hall door in her home and left her handbag on the couch in her sitting room. She then made a number of trips from her car to her kitchen and back. On one of these trips, she noticed that her handbag was not on her couch.
The woman got a "terrible fright" as she did not see or hear anybody.
Sergeant Leetch said: "You always say that criminals are very quick to spot an opportunity to steal.
"Yes and are bold enough to do it almost in front of us. This lady was vulnerable because of her age".
