Kilkenny gardaí seize BMW after roadside discovery raises eyebrows

Gardaí uncover multiple issues with BMW stopped in Johnstown in north Kilkenny
Gardaí on patrol in north Kilkenny uncovered a number of issues with an ‘an extremely loud and smoky’ vehicle after they stopped it for further investigation recently.
The findings were baffling enough that gardaí took to social media to described the incident by first asking: “What sorcery is this?”
“Our Roads Policing Unit were around Johnstown earlier [Saturday] when an old BMW coupé caught their attention due to almost illegible number plates and an extremely loud and smoky exhaust,” a garda spokesperson said.
“The vehicle was recorded as a 320d on our system but our crew suspected that something different from the original four cylinder two-litre diesel engine was fitted.
“A roadside inspection was carried out which revealed a six cylinder (M57) engine of either 2.5 or three-litre capacity.”
Gardaí confirmed that the vehicle was immediately impounded under Section 41 Road Traffic Act (no NCT).
They further stated that a PSV examination will be carried out to confirm whether this is indeed the 2.5 or three litre.
“The driver will have questions to answer over motor tax and insurance as well as NCT and any other defects revealed in the examination,” the spokesperson concluded.
