A LIMERICK garda station bid farewell to a garda reserve who “always showed up with a smile on his face”, as he retired from An Garda Síochána.

Garda reserve Declan Prenderville has been stationed at Henry Street since 2008 and marked his last day on the job on Friday, September 8.

Chief Superintendent Derek Smart said Mr Prenderville will be “greatly missed”.

“Declan was here in Henry Street for every big event that was run across the division over the last number of years. He came with great personal knowledge and experience from life at the age he was.

“I would like to formally and publicly thank him for the assistance that he gave to me here in the division and to all the units that he worked with,” he said.

The Garda Reserve is a voluntary body, drawn from the community to assist the existing service at times when extra personnel are required. Garda reserve members have limited garda powers while on duty.
