Gardai charge fifth man over violent disorder incident at Limerick filling station

GARDAI have arrested and charged a fifth man in connection with a violent disorder incident at a Limerick filling station.
The incident, which took place at 3.30pm on the Ballysimon Road on the August Bank Holiday Monday, saw a dark-coloured car being driven at high speed around the forecourt of a filling station. CCTV footage shows a man dressed in black and yielding an implement coming within inches of the car as it speeds past the pumps before it ploughs into a fire extinguisher and continues on at speed.
The man can be seen limping away from the petrol pumps. He is one of three men seen on the footage yielding implements as they chase the car and then attempt to evade danger as it veers towards them.
On Monday, August 14, gardai investigating the matter conducted a search operation at a number of residences on Childers Road in the city.
"The operation was carried out by gardaí from Henry Street Crime Unit, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit and the Divisional Search Team.
"Four males (aged in their 40s, 30s, 20s, late teens) were arrested and detained at garda stations in Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
"A number of items were also seized, which are subject to further investigation," said the garda spokesperson.
Gardai confirmed the four males were charged in relation to the incident at a special sitting of Limerick District Court on Tuesday.
Limerick Live has now learned a fifth man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident.
A garda spokesperson said a fifth man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on Thursday, August 17 and was charged at a special court sitting on Friday.
