‘Great excitement’ as primary school student receives letter from actor Paul Mescal

Kate, from Doon Convent NS received a response from the Oscar-nominated Maynooth actor
THERE was “great excitement” as a Limerick primary school student received a letter from Oscar-nominated actor, Paul Mescal.
Fifth and sixth-class students at Doon Convent NS were given a task by their teacher to prove that letter writing is not a lost art. Students in both classes chose famous faces to write letters to, asking them a number of questions and hoping for a reply.
Some of the people the students wrote to include television and radio presenter Ray Darcy, President Michael D Higgins, Marty Morrisey, Limerick hurling manager John Kiely and many more.
Student at the school, Kate decided to send her letter to none other than Oscar-nominated actor, Paul Mescal and was delighted when Paul replied.
In his response, Paul thanked Kate for her letter and answered a number of her questions.
“...to answer your questions: I think seeing my dad on stage when I was young and taking part in a school musical when I was sixteen are what inspired me to start acting,” the Normal People actor said.
“Once I started acting, I fell in love with it immediately.
“My favourite part is imagining what other people’s lives are like and getting to act out that imagined life.”
He continued: “And finally, I would love to work with Joaquin Phoenix. He’s extraordinary.
“I’m delighted you enjoyed acting in the Christmas play. My only advice at this point is if you enjoyed, keep doing it as much as you can. See if there are any drama groups around you and join them,” Paul told Kate.
The Maynooth actor received his first Oscar nomination for his role in the feature film, Aftersun. He is also set to lead the upcoming Gladiator sequel.
So far, the class have received replies from President Michael D Higgins and Ray Darcy who featured them on his RTÉ Radio One show last Thursday.
