A MAN who was smoking heroin pleaded guilty to a burglary in east Limerick.

Dawid Sikorski, aged 44, of Blackthorn Drive, Caherdavin admitted to the offence at Cliggin, Doon.

Insp Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, told Kilmallock Court that at 2.30am on June 14, 2023, the defendant entered a garage after breaking a side window.

“He removed a child’s Suzuki scrambler by pushing it out. The property owner woke up and thwarted him,” said Insp Thompson.

Gardai were alerted and commenced a search for Mr Sikorski.

“He was arrested in the vicinity some time later. He made full and frank admissions. He has one previous conviction for the possession of drugs,” said Insp Thompson.

Michael O’Donnell, solicitor for the defendant, said his client was smoking heroin.

He owed money. He was asked to do this. He was dropped at that location. The idea was that he would drive the bike but there was no petrol in it,” said Mr O’Donnell.

The solicitor told Judge Patricia Harney that Mr Sikorski is a qualified plumber and is back on the right track.

“He has moved away from the wrong people and is off drugs,” said Mr O’Donnell.

Judge Harney asked for a pre-sanction probation report before adjourning the case until November.
