Demand for blood is up 8% over the corresponding period last year

THE IRISH Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) has a need for blood donors to attend its upcoming Limerick blood donation clinics.

Demand for blood is up 8% over the corresponding period last year.

Last month recorded the highest demand for blood product requests from Irish hospitals and the IBTS issued a pre-amber alert to Irish hospitals urging them to conserve blood stocks last October.

Escalation to a full AMBER-Alert could impact on scheduled hospital procedures which require blood product support.
