It's official! Beloved Limerick pub is set to reopen

And the two questions on everyone’s lips - Will it still be €5 entry? And when exactly will it reopen?
Following years of rumours and desperate pleas from the public, it is now time to get your dancing shoes ready as Costello’s Tavern is officially set to reopen!
The beloved establishment, located on Dominic Street, closed its doors in March 2020 and failed to open again following the Covid-19 pandemic, coming as a huge disappointment to many.
Known widely as ‘Costies,’ the iconic venue has been a cornerstone of Limerick’s nightlife since its doors opened in 1970.
Since its inception, Costello's Tavern gradually rose to fame for its beer pong, sticky carpets, toasties and of course, the main man himself, Flan Costello, the founder of the iconic establishment.
A beloved figure in Limerick, Flan was known to be propped outside the premises, ready and waiting to wish you a good night, take your €5 entry and send you on your merry way.
Flan himself became one of the many reasons that regulars came back time and time again as Costello’s Tavern is a unique place.
Before its untimely closure, the downstairs bar area was home to a relaxed atmosphere where you could sit back, have a few drinks and eat your toastie before playing a game of beer pong. However, upstairs in the nightclub/bar area, there was a totally different vibe. It’s where many headed to dance the night away under some disco lights until the early hours of the morning.
Now, almost six-and-a-half years on, Limerick Live can exclusively reveal that Costello's Tavern, following months of renovations, will officially reopen in the Autumn.
Speaking to Limerick Live, Flan Costello said that following the refurbishments, the renovated Costellos “will be similar” to the ‘old’ design: “We are behind schedule, a good bit. When we started the job, we thought it was going to be a small job but it has become a very large job.
"There's a lot of work to be done as of yet,” he confirmed.
And the two questions on everyone’s lips - will it still be €5 entry? And when exactly will it reopen?
Flan stated: "I don't know about the fiver in, whether we charge in or not, I can't say!
"All we are doing is hoping now.
"We are hoping we will have it nearly completed by the end of October,” he concluded.
Now as the doors prepare to open once again, Costello’s Tavern and its staff are gearing up to welcome back a generation of familiar faces as well as welcoming a whole new crowd to the one-of-a-kind ‘Costies’ experience.
