Leading Limerick garda appointed to new role

THE LATEST appointments and allocations in An Garda Síochána confirm a new role for one leading Limerick garda.
From December 11, Chief Superintendent Aileen Magner, from Kilfinane, is being transferred to Ennis with responsibility for Clare and Tipperary garda divisions.
In July, Chief Supt Magner was promoted from Superintendent to Chief Superintendent in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
The former Superintendent in Newcastle West and Henry Street now moves closer to home, as she is set to return and work in the Munster region.
Another Chief Superintendent, Colm O’Sullivan, is being transferred to Thurles Garda Station with the responsibility for the Southern Region. Chief Supt O’Sullivan was previously based in Ennis, where Chief Suppt Magner is now assuming his role.
These allocations are part of the new Garda Operating Model, introduced as part of A Policing Service for the Future, which is the implementation plan based on the report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland.
This model is said to “particularly enhance the investigation of crime through the delivery of a greater range of specialised services in local areas.
“The operating model will see the number of garda divisions reduced from 28 to 21.”
