Limerick and Malahide at bottom of work-life balance list

LIMERICK city is in good company at the bottom of a work-life balance survey of 50 "towns" carried out by Switcher.ie
The city which sits astride the majestic River Shannon is in 50th position. Second last is the picturesque coastal town of Malahide. Cork city is 46th, Waterford city 45th and Dublin city 43rd out of the list entitled "Ireland’s best towns for work-life balance".
Castlebar and Ballina in Mayo are named amongst the best towns in the survey compiled ahead of the Work-Life Balance Act 2023 Code of Practice being introduced. The legislation was brought in by the Government last year with an aim to give employees new rights, such as the right to request remote work carer's leave and other flexible arrangements.
Switcher, an Irish price comparison site, took into account house prices and crime rate, and researched broadband speeds and 5G mobile coverage, sports facilities and leisure centres, and cafes and coffee shops.
Major supermarkets, green spaces such as national and public parks and gardens, primary schools and GP surgeries and proximity to major roads and bus stops were also part of the survey.
And based on that criteria Switcher.ie - part of the Mediahuis stable which publishes the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, Sunday World, and eleven regional titles - found that Limerick was bottom of the work-life balance survey.
