THE ROSE of Tralee will host a number of exciting new events across towns and villages in Ireland in 2023, including in County Limerick.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival's Community Roses Event is a new initiative which will bring Rose selection events to local areas.

The gala events have been organised to search for Community Roses, in a bid to celebrate communities around Ireland as part of the larger Rose of Tralee festival.

This will be a fun event for all of the community to support, where young men and women, their families, friends and the businesses sponsoring them, can come together to celebrate their homeplace.

The Limerick event will take place on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Longcourt House Hotel in Newcastle West.

The person chosen as the Community Rose will hold the title for one year and represent their community for the year.

They will also go forward to the County Selection event and potentially represent their county at the international festival in August.

To qualify for the event you must be female or identify as female, available for Rose Selection events and be 18 years of age by January 1, 2023 and not age 30 on or prior to September 1, 2023.

Applicants must be born in Ireland, be an Irish citizen or be of Irish origin by virtue of one of your ancestors having been born in Ireland.

You must also not have previously represented any Rose Centre at the festival.

The festival are also looking for eligible young men between the ages of 21 and 31 to get involved in the community event with the possibility of going forward to the County Selection event for Rose Escorts.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival 2023 will take place from August 19 to 23.

In 2019, Limerick Rose Sinead Flanagan won the festival in what was the last competition before the world went into lockdown, and became the 60th International Rose of Tralee.

Those wishing to apply to become a Community Rose or Escort may do so on roseoftraleecommunities.com.

Local businesses and sponsors may also nominate someone to be a Community Rose via the website.
