Recently retired University of Limerick professor Eoin Devereux will have his debut poetry collection Gardening Leave feature on RTE Radio 1

LIMERICK writer Eoin Devereux’s debut poetry collection will feature on RTE Radio 1’s Poetry People this weekend.

Launched in late 2025 by 251 Editions, the collection Gardening Leave looks at Devereux’s working class identity, family history and also the experiences of many marginalised groups.

On Sunday, October 25 at 7pm, on RTE Radio 1, Professor Devereux will be speaking to presenter Rachel Hegarty about his book, the themes within the poems and he will also read from the collection.

The debut collection features a variety of new poems and also work previously published in journals and anthologies across Ireland, the UK and America.

Author Donal Ryan has described the collection as: “A towering achievement; it is essential poetry, funny and furious, scything and stark, sincere and always beautiful.”

Poet Martin Dyar said: “Beautifully free-flowing, dramatic and mature, Gardening Leave announces a poet committed to the humane craft of making the lyrical voice resound as a social instrument and a gift for every reader.”

On November 19, at 7pm in O’Mahony’s in Limerick, Professor Devereux will be in conversation with Sharon Guard and June O’Sullivan for a ‘Becoming a Creative Writer’ event and tickets are available on eventbrite.

Professor Devereux recently retired from University of Limerick and has been busy on the literary front over the summer.

He was invited to read at the Write By the Sea Festival in Kilmore Quay and also at the Circling The Square Festival in Thurles.
