More than 107,000 people register interest for Ryder Cup in Limerick

Huge international tournament in Adare Manor is just three years away
MORE than 107,000 people have registered their interest in attending the 2027 Ryder Cup in Adare Manor - over three times the number who had expressed interest in attending the 2023 event in Rome, three years out from that tournament.
The figure serves to show the huge magnitude of the event Limerick will play host to in 2027, the centenary year of the USA v Europe tournament.
This Tuesday, former World Number 1 golfer Tiger Woods fuelled speculation he would bid to lead the American team in three years.
He also said he hopes Adare Manor owner, JP McManus - who he is close to - will be “healthy and happy” for the 2027 contest.
“I know it’s near and dear to his heart that he wants to be there for the event and I hope he is there,” the golf star said ahead of the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in Scotland.
As for the Ryder Cup captaincy, he added: “I'll put my hat into the ring when I have more time and I feel like I can devote myself.”
Tens of thousands of room nights will be needed for the tournament in the Mid-West, with Ryder Cup staff starting talks with local hoteliers on the sales process earlier than ever before for any previous tournament.
Accommodation providers are being asked to hold three potential sets of dates for the star-studded tournament in 2027.
The exact date of the biennial contest - which will draw the world’s best golfers -is expected to be announced later this year.
The three-day tournament has, in recent years, taken place mainly in September - but hotels are expected to be busy throughout the whole of 2027 as a result of the event, in a huge boost to Limerick’s business community.
The global media, construction workers, tourists, sponsors and business partners are among some of those who will descend on Limerick throughout the year.
The company coordinating guest services at the USA v Europe duel has worked on a huge number of other global tournaments including the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, the Olympic Games, Formula One and The Open golf tournament.
Staff of the firm were in Limerick earlier this month to brief hoteliers and the local business community on the 2027 Ryder Cup in Limerick and the benefits to the region.
A presentation - seen by the Limerick Leader - reveals that six in every 10 people who have expressed an interest in attending Ryder Cup 2027 say they want more information on travel and accommodation packages.
Next month, a Town Hall meeting is expected to be held in Adare on the huge tournament, giving the public a chance to find out what to expect at a tournament which drew a record 271,000 people to Rome last year.
Staff from Ryder Cup Europe will be on site in Adare Manor throughout the calendar year of 2027.
There will be regular site visits to the five-star resort throughout 2026, including a Year to Go celebration around September of that year. It’s expected this will see 1,000 hotel room nights required across a five-day period.
In the final countdown to the tournament between June and August 2027, it’s estimated up to 2,500 workers will be on site each day.
In the briefing to hoteliers, they were encouraged to speak to colleagues in previous host venues like Rome and Paris to gain their experiences.
At the Rome Ryder Cup tournament last year, 27,500 hotel rooms were put in place, with 20,800 of these utilised. It’s anticipated tour operators will begin to be able to buy tickets for Adare 2027 following the conclusion of next year’s tournament in New York. After the date of Ryder Cup 2027 is announced, there will be a sales window across 2025 and 2026.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Ryder Cup are also taking place in the city. The public plaza at the heart of the city’s Opera Square development is being earmarked as a fanzone for the event.
