OVER €200 worth of diesel was stolen from a truck in county Limerick.

On Friday, November 3 a man in his 40s parked his truck in Ballylanders after filling it with fuel so that he could head off on deliveries early the following morning.

At 6am the following morning, he approached his truck and he could smell diesel.

He checked the diesel tank gauge and discovered that over €200 euro worth of diesel was missing.

He immediately looked at the CCTV for the yard and could see that in the early hours of Saturday morning a number of persons had entered the premises and left with drums of the trucks fuel.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street garda station said: "If you are concerned about your truck fuel there are some heavy duty locking devices for fuel caps available.

"Park the vehicles under sensor lights if possible and ideally do not fill the fuel tank and leave it overnight."
