THE REVITALISATION works at Limerick's main thoroughfare have been paused until early in the new years, it has been confirmed.

Limerick City and County says it has arranged the temporary cessation of the works "as a result of talking and listening to the traders".

This, the council says, is to minimise disruption to traffic flows and trade during the busy Christmas period.

Only localised remedial surface work, landscaping & street cleaning/sealing will take place at O'Connell Street between now and early January.

The local authority says two lanes of traffic along the full length of the O’Connell street site will be open to traffic on a temporary basis over the Christmas and New Year period.

The remaining works on the multi-million euro project, which largely consists of works to the junctions and the installation of street furniture, will recommence on Tuesday January 3, 2023.

There has been no indication as to when the revitalisation works will conclude.
