Councillor wants of repeating mistakes of the past

COUNCIL is weighing up whether to build more houses or install a sensory garden at a site in Mungret.

Fine Gael City West councillor Daniel Butler saw a notice of motion passed last year calling for a sensory garden in a walled garden near Mungret Park.

At this month’s metropolitan meeting, Cllr Butler sought an update on the plan.

He was told in a written response by senior engineer Aidan Finn that the matter remains under consideration.

This, he added, is because a request has been made from the housing department for residential use of the site.

Cllr Butler warned: “We are repeating the mistakes of the past in terms of building loads of houses and having no community spaces.”

A sensory garden would offer a space for everyone to enjoy a quiet time, he added.
