Street cleaning team spent 'half a day' cleaning up littered Limerick laneway

THE LIMERICK Street Cleaning Team as part of Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) spent approximately half a day clearing a litter-filled alleyway in the city.
The alleyway located just off of Little Catherine Street near Olio and Farina Café was littered with dozens of filled bin bags, plastics and even a disposed of microwave.
A spokesperson for LCCC confirmed the street-cleaning team had to spend most of the day clearing the area.
“Limerick City and County Council can confirm that on February 9 one of our crews of 3 council staff and a small sweeper spent approximately half a day cleaning the Limerick lane.
“The council will continue to monitor these laneways on an ongoing basis, but we do remind people to take their litter with them and use the bins provided where possible at all times,“ the spokesperson said.
Social Democrats councillor for Limerick City West Elisa O’Donovan believes there needs to be a “better system” put in place in Limerick laneways.
“LCCC street cleaning team had to spend the whole morning cleaning this whole area up,” Clrr O’Donovan said in a social media post.
“There needs to be a better system in these laneways than these plastic bins and the dumping they encourage!” she added.
