Over €20.4 million paid out in Tipperary Vacant Property Grant Scheme payments

Tipperary County Council has paid out more than €20 million in Vacant Property Refurbishment Grants since the scheme was implemented in July 2022, bringing 368 homes back into use across the county.

Since the Scheme opened, said the Council, 1033 applications have been received.

As of October 28th 2026, 763 applications have been approved for grant support, with the remaining application either awaiting further information from applicants or scheduled for an initial technical inspection.

Brian Beck, Director of Services for Planning and Placemaking, welcomed the continued success of the initiative.

“Tipperary County Council is delighted with the strong update of the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme.

“The scheme provides grants of up to €70,000 to assist property owners in bringing vacant and derelict homes back into use, helping to address vacancy and increase housing supply throughout the county. The level of investment being delivered through the scheme is significant benefiting not only individual applicants but also supporting local trades, businesses and the wider economy across Tipperary.

Fiona Bonfield, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, said “the grant scheme provides a significant incentive to the owners of vacant properties to bring them back into use for homes. I strongly encourage owners of vacant properties to contact the team to explore the supports available”

The Council is also encouraging owners of vacant accommodation located above or adjoining commercial premises to explore the “Above the Shop” Grant and Expert Advice Grant. Funding up to €135,000 may be available for eligible projects.

Funding remains available under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme and applications continue to be accepted.
