GARDAÍ are investigating after two cars were stolen from a house in Limerick.

Thieves forced open the front door of a house at Monaleen Park, Castletroy between 1am and 7.45am on Saturday, December 9.

They made their way into the kitchen where they stole two sets of car keys. They went back outside and then used the keys to steal two cars that were parked outside.

Both cars were Volkswagen Golf Estates. One was grey and the other was blue. Neither of the cars have been recovered.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who may have information on this burglary to contact Henry Street garda station at 061 212400.

Garda John Finnerty said: "We would advise all car owners not to leave their car keys where they could be easily accessible to criminals in the event of a burglary.

"When retiring for the night bring the car keys upstairs with you. We have noticed a recent trend where many criminals break into houses, and then steal both family cars that are parked outside.

"Don’t make it easy for criminals. Take as many crime prevention precautions as you can. We have further information on all crime prevention initiatives on our website at Garda.ie".
