'A kind and decent gentleman,' tributes pour in for Tipperary father and musician

Tributes have been pouring for Eddie Tuohy of Father Matthew Street, Tipperary Town, Tipperary who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Friends, family and acquaintances have paid heartfelt tributes to the father of three and stepfather of two on his rip.ie page in the wake of his death.

Eddie is remembered for his musical gifts, his friendship and the impact he left on the wider community over the course of his life.

A friend wrote: "Eddie was such a wonderful, kind and talented guy who I was proud to consider a friend. A light is lost in Tipperary...never to be replaced."

Another person said: "An absolute gentleman, always a pleasure to meet and a great musician."

Another wrote: "Eddie will be missed greatly. His love of music was always evident - his Banjo playing will stay in our memories forever."

Eddie's cousin said: "He was a great musician and a really nice guy. I can picture him playing a tune on the mandolin in Heaven accompanied by his father, Mikey, on the whistle and his older brother, Ernie, on the guitar."

Another person wrote: "I have very fond memories of Eddie playing the mandolin during the many great sessions back in the 80s/ 90s. especially Sweet Sixteen. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace ."

Eddie is predeceased by his father Mick, mother Lizzie, brother Ernie, nephew Michael and baby Frances.

He is sadly missed by his loving family, partner Jacinta, children Emma, Jack and Jessie, stepchildren Brian and Ciara, grandchildren Shay, Evelyn and Cillian, sons-in-law Graham and Brian, brothers John, Michael and Gerry, sisters Sheila, Anna, Mary and Celia, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Reposing at Whelan's Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary Town on Friday evening 31st January 2025 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Mass for Eddie will take place in St. Michael's Church, Tipperary on February 1 at 12noon and burial afterwards in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tipperary Town.
