Council unable to identify a specific reason for the well drying up

The Church Well in Tipperary Town, which ran dry last August, has seen water return in recent weeks.

According to Cllr Annemarie Ryan, the issue was reported to Tipperary County Council’s environment section at the time, and council staff visited the site to investigate.

They were unable to identify a specific reason for the well drying up, suggesting that last summer's very dry weather may have been a contributing factor.

Recent significant rainfall has led to some water flow being restored.

"The good news is that some water flow has been restored (naturally), but they could not find any specific reason why the well had dried up except possibly climate change," she said.

Cllr Ryan has asked the council to "keep their eye on it and carry out further exploration on this much-loved historical feature".
