BREAKING: Popular Tipperary store announces 'closing down sale'

A popular Tipperary shop has announced a "closing down sale".

Cllr Annemarie Ryan confirmed the news on Facebook that Wellworths has announced a closing down sale.

She said: "Very sad news for Tipperary Town, seeing the loss of a brilliant and well loved shop in the heart of the town.

"Why is it closing?: a town centre choked with traffic, increased online shopping, town centre parking charges, hike in overall running costs, big multiple stores on the outskirt of the town centre that independent retailers struggle to compete with, coupled with reduced town centre footfall...

"I was in Wellworths earlier, the staff are doing their best to remain positive, but its hard for them. People can say insensitive things looking for bargains so please keep this in mind when shopping there.

"Tony, Maureen their staff and Wellorths as we know and love it, will be sorely missed in Tipperary Town.

"Also to acknowledge Kingstons Shoe Shop and its closure later this month. They have been a permanent fixture in Tipperary Town for many many years, very sad to see it is also closing."
