Call for pop-up art exhibitions to be facilitated in this Tipperary town

Councillor Jim Ryan has called for pop-up exhibition spaces for artists in Thurles.

He told last week’s sitting of Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council that he recently attended a meeting with local artists.

He said he was surprised at how many there are but shocked to discover that The Source gallery space has a two-year waiting list for exhibitions.

“We should support them. It’s great to see the space in such demand, but its not big enough, said Cllr Ryan.

He suggested the council fund or subsidise the rental of disused shops in the town.

“It would be good for them (artists) but also good for the town to use the shops,” said Cllr Ryan.
