A Cashel councillor has called on An Garda Síochána to install lifesaving defibrillators in Garda Stations.

Cllr Declan Burgess has written to the newly appointed Superintendent in the Cahir District, Kieran Ruane, regarding defibrillators being available at Garda Stations in the district. “I am aware Cashel Garda Station does not have a defibrillator and I strongly believe our gardaí should have a defibrillator available to them and to the public.

“Given that members of An Garda Síochána are primarily the first emergency services members on a scene or accident I think it would be an appropriate measure to equip the Garda Stations with their own defibrillator,” said the Fine Gael representative.

“Many of our community organisations and indeed local businesses in the area have made defibs available on their sites. But these are not readily available outside of normal operating hours. I believe resourcing Garda Stations, like Cashel with their own will be minimal expense but will have a major benefit to the wider community. This is a common sense request. I do hope it is feasible and I am willing to engage with the various stakeholders to make this happen,” he added.
