Calls for tougher penalties for landowners who do not cut their hedges in Tipperary

Councillor John O'Heney said there will be fatalities on roads if people do not comply
Councillor Máirín McGrath has said the council need to “go harder” on those who do not cut their hedges.
She said at a recent sitting of Tipperary County Council that when some people don’t comply with the law on hedge cutting other people don’t think they should have to.
But the Cahir councillor also said she thinks there should be a scheme to help families with the cost.
Cllr John O’Heney agreed with Cllr Mcgrath saying it is a road safety issue and there will be a fatality if people do not comply.
“We need to come down harder on people who do not comply,” said Cllr O’Heney.
Director of the Roads Section Liam Brett said they are asking landowners to cut their hedges.
He said they will have a media campaign and asked councillors to speak with their district engineer if they are concerned about particular areas.
