A minute of silence was observed at the start of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s monthly meeting in memory of the late Johnny Dowley, who was a Fine Gael councillor on the former Carrick Urban District Council for 20 years and served six terms as its chairman.

A vote of sympathy was also passed at the meeting to the family of Mr Dowley from Connawaries, Carrickbeg, who passed away on September 2 at the age of 96.

In expressing his sympathy, Carrick MD Cathaoirleach Cllr Kieran Bourke said Johnny Dowley had been a very active man in the community.

He recalled how Johnny was also very much involved in agriculture and pointed to the dairy farmer’s long time involvement on the board of the former Waterford Foods Co-Op Board.
