Club established during the Emergency will hold anniversary celebration in Tipperary

Cavalry Club's 80th anniversary dinner will be hosted in Clonmel
The 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner of the Cavalry Club takes place at Hotel Minella, Clonmel at 7.30pm this Saturday evening, November 9.
The club was established in 1944 during the Emergency (the Second World War) by Cavalry Officers who served with the Defence Forces and were being demobilised.
The primary objective of the Cavalry Club was and is to provide a forum through which Defence Forces Cavalry Officers, both serving and retired, from the Regular as well as the Reserve (old FCA) Defence Forces keep in contact through social events.
Due to the long association of the Cavalry Corps with Kickham Barracks and the town of Clonmel, it was decided to hold the anniversary dinner at Hotel Minella.
It’s expected that many former members of the 3rd Cavalry Squadron from the local area will attend.
Also in attendance will be Lieutenant General (Retired) Sean McCann, former Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, as well as several Cavalry Officers born and reared in Clonmel, such as George Kerton, Maurice McQuillan and Sean O’Keeffe.
The host for the evening will be Colonel (Retired) Anthony Bracken MMG, who is President of the Cavalry Club.
