A man who was looking for work during Covid-19 lockdown in 2021 was outside his allowed travel limit, Nenagh District Court was told.

William Cash of Rathbawn, Tullow, Carlow, was found by gardaí at Railway View, Roscrea, on January 12, 2021. The travel restrictions in place at the time stated that you must remain within 5km of your home.

The court heard that Mr Cash was with two other people and he told gardaí that he had called to a house offering to do work.

Mr Cash’s solicitor, Elizabeth McKeever, said that her client was 37 years old and a married man with six children.

She said that he had been in Roscrea looking for work and had a powerwasher on the day in question

“He understands he shouldn’t have been outside his county but he was just trying to earn some money for his family,” said Ms McKeever.

Mr Cash had no previous convictions, said Ms McKeever.

Judge Elizabeth MacGrath said that if Mr Cash paid €100 to the court poor box, she would strike the matter out.

Mr Cash handed €100 into the court on the day.
