EDITORIAL: Community groups in Tipperary get well-deserved funding boost

There has been plenty to celebrate in the Premier County this week.

The Government allocated almost one million euro in funding for community groups, local facilities and projects in Tipperary under the Community Recognition Fund.

The fund was set up in 2023 to recognise the work and aid the development of facilities in areas who welcomed asylum seekers and refugees into their communities.

In Tipperary, 16 of the 18 applications submitted to the programme were approved.

They include upgrade works to sports club facilities, renovations to halls and the development of community gardens.

Areas who received funding include Roscrea, Littleton, Carrick-On-Suir, Borrisokane and Clonmel.

It truly is deserved because, despite some negative press, there are groups of people in these areas who have worked so very hard to not only welcome newcomers but keep their communities inclusive, well-resourced and fun.

You couldn’t review the week without mentioning the Olympics and it has been a great week for Tipp’s athletes.

Tipp is famous for its sport but those who travelled to Paris have really done us proud.

And as they return to their hometowns and are welcomed as heroes, they are a source of inspiration for everyone.

Tipp’s festival season continues with Hoolie in Hills and The Nenagh Show this past weekend.

We really do have a lot going on around us and it is easy to complain about what we don’t have.  But if this week doesn’t inspire you to get involved in your community and “be the change you want to see” so to speak, then nothing will. The summer’s not over just yet.

And, as always, don't forget to send us your snaps. We love to see you all enjoying the local festivals, cleaning up your village and just getting out, involved and having fun!
