HOUSING: New Notice To Quit advice issued for tenants in Tipperary

Tipperary County Council have given new advice to tenants in receipt of a notice to quit with no entitlement to social housing.
In response to a query by the Tipperarylive, Tipperary County Council provided an outline of the current support being offered.
The first step is to contact Threshold to ensure the notice is valid.
If it is, the council are advising tenants of two schemes to help with purchase, the First Home Shared Equity Scheme and the Local Authority Home Loan.
The Shared Equity Scheme usually only available for new build properties in estates.
But will be extended to those who have been issued a notice to quit.
If neither scheme is suitable and all other options have been explored, Tipperary County Council may provide emergency accommodation. However, they say, emergency accommodation is a last resort.
IN THE WORKS
Additionally, the council say they are aware of an initiatives currently being explored by The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The Cost Rental Tenant-In-Situ (CRITiS) would allow local authorities to assess the tenants circumstances and refer their details to the Housing Agency.
The Housing Agency is a government body that works with the housing department and approved housing bodies to deliver housing services.
Secondly the council are awaiting the introduction of the First Right to Refusal measure. This will mean if your landlord decides to sell, they will have to offer you the home first.
SOCIAL HOUISNG
If you are entitled to social housing, the advice has not changed.
Tipperary County Council are asking those who recieve a notice to quit to contact them immediately.
The council can help those tenants find alternative accommodation through the HAP Place-Finder Service or the Choice-Based Letting System.
If the tenant is in a position to purchase their home, Tipperary County Council can advise them on the schemes available to assist them.
The council may also purchase the home through the existing Tenant-in- Situ Scheme.
But they must take into consideration, cost, value for money and condition, size and suitability. Where there is no other choice, the council say they will provide emergency accommodation to prevent the person or family from becoming homeless.
