Many dogs being “put to sleep” in North Tipperary

Councillors spoke about dogs being put down at the Nenagh MD recently
A Council official told a recent Nenagh MD meeting that there are a lot of stray dogs in Tipperary at the moment which means the local authority is often left with no choice but to put the dogs to sleep.
Cllr Seamus Morris said there's “a huge number of stray dogs around North Tipp at the moment, which is very worrying. Mo Chara Animal Rescue in Moyne is working very hard as a result. There are beautiful dogs and puppies in Mo Chara. I'd urge the people of Tipperary to please give them a home.”
“The Council's Dog Control Unit is regularly full,” said an official, “and as a result a lot of dogs are being put to sleep. The number of strays is big.”
He added that there are 25 XL bully dogs in Tipperary “on our records. From now on owners will have to get a certificate of exemption for XL bullies. The law is coming in next month.
"Ultimately, the purpose of the law is to try and move the dog out of circulation in the country.”
“When you see someone with a restricted dog breed and no muzzle,” asked Cllr Joe Hannigan, “which authority do you contact so they can contact these people and tell them about the regulations?”
