MEP for Ireland South calls for progress to be made on the N24 linking Waterford to Tipperary

N24 Waterford to Cahir is currently in phase 2, which will help identify constraints to the project
Sinn Féin MEP for Ireland South Kathleen Funchion has called on the incoming government to ensure the stalled N24 upgrade is resumed.
The N24 Waterford to Cahir Project forms part of the N24 national primary route, a strategic transport corridor between the cities of Limerick and Waterford. The route connects major ports as well as a number of urban centres between Limerick and Waterford and it is currently in phase 2.
Speaking from Brussels, MEP Funchion said:
“As another Fine Gael Fianna Fáil coalition prepares to take government one of their glaring failures is to increase the East West connectivity across the country. The stalled N24 upgrade, to ensure a safer, faster road from Waterford to Limerick is a prime example.
“The coalition parties have hinted that infrastructure upgrade will be a priority and I would call on the government to ensure that projects currently in the early stages of development get priority for funding.
“Better connectivity between Waterford and Limerick will bring a boost for all in those communities and deliver safer roads, I welcome the progress being made on the Cahir to Limerick section of the project and emphasise that the same progress must now be emulated in the remaining section.
“The delays are deeply unfair to the local communities affected and to commuters between the regions. I have contacted the managing local authority for an update on the project."
